week of 3rd august, 2026

guess whose week got ruined because they got a cold!!! lol that's right. it's me :(

things i've read

a trojan horse is supposed to have people inside it by emily wilson for the atlantic (fuck the atlantic) – and an interesting companion tiktok arguing that the film's individualistic lens leads to a failure of any potential anti-war messaging by ignoring structures of power (the “he ain’t need to say all that” highlight both cracked me up and is also so true)

one night only: an honest attempt to understand the ridiculous world of callum turner and monica barbaro’s new rom-com by hillary busis for vanity fair. journalism is so back, baby.

i ended up on this page after seeing somebody play tiny tim in the weird al movie and going "huh, i never really thought about the fact that tiny tim was a real guy and not just a voice in my nightmares", but tiny tim's wikipedia page really is one of the most interesting things i've read this week, and also something that made me mutter "what the fuck?" under my breath several times.

youtube videos

after watching a pushinguproses video explaining mouthwashing and being fascinated, and knowing i'm too much of a weenie to play it myself (i love horror AND i'm easily scared, yes we exist), i watched a no-commentary playthrough of mouthwashing. holy shit/what the fuck/staring into the distance/what the fuuuuuuck/five stars no notes. (bonus points for the moment when the player decides to boogie along with swansea for a bit.)

lightning round of videos i enjoyed this week from my sickbed:

podcast episodes

no such thing as the mice of the fruit bowl by no such thing as a fish, which features a very funny callback to the previous episode, which in my opinion should've been called no such thing as mambo number seven.

boy george's very strange spiral by a bit fruity. i had a real "i've connected the two dots" moment when the real housewives of beverly hills came up in this (i did not connect the two dots, i've just been a PK hater for years now).

three cups of tea by if books could kill, which also had a "connect the dots" moment for me as i read jon krakaeur's into thin air a couple weeks ago

miscellany

while trying to remember some facts about mambo number five that i learned from no such thing as a fish, i proceeded to learn an absolutely ridiculous amount of amusing facts about mambo number five. i present: mambo number facts
